Can an IQ test determine intelligence?
According
to experts, the validity of IQ
tests used to estimate intelligence is debatable because they measure
several traits.
Harvard
psychologists
claim that there are various subtypes of human intellect. Additionally,
socioeconomic elements like culture, environment, and access to education might
have an effect on a person's IQ level.
- One study found that people with acute illnesses had inferior cognitive ability because their bodies divert energy from developing and functioning brains to fighting disease.
- An IQ test score can offer crucial insights into particular cognitive skills, but it is unable to assess intelligence in its broadest sense, such as emotional intelligence or creativity.
- While academic and professional success can be predicted by IQ, this does not always equate to a high quality of life. While some people with high IQs will succeed, sometimes those with low IQs outperform them.
Short-term
memory
helps us recall knowledge that may be useful during an IQ exam, but research
has proven that these tests don't adequately assess all cognitive talents.
Therefore, although if an IQ test uses a scoring system to assess intellect, don't be discouraged if your score is below average, and try not to become overly ecstatic if you receive a high number.
